June 11, 1942 - Carroll Times - Funeral rites for Harvey C Moore, who was instantly killed when struck by lightning about 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon while plowing on the farm of a neighbor, Gould Lasher, will be held Friday afternoon. Short services at the family residence, one mile east and three miles north of Lidderdale at 2 o'clock will be followed by services at the Methodist church in Lanesboro at 2:30, with the Rev J.W. Gruber officiating. Burial will be in East Liberty cemetery and pallbearers will be John Kurth, Fred Dewey, Gould Lasher, George Schaeffer, Dan Lasher, Jr, and Ernest Wenck. The Odd Fellow burial service will be given. The body is resting at the family home until the time of the rites, having been returned there from the Huffman Funeral Home at 10:30 this morning.

Mr Moore's death occurred about a quarter of a mile from his own home. His body was found by Mr and Mrs Gould Lasher who, on their return from town, noticed that the tractor was stalled in a fence row. It appeared that Mr. Moore was hurrying to reach the end of a row at the time the lightning struck him. He fell acrossed the wheel and the tractor started diagonally across the field. When the tractor struck the fence and the plow hit the sod, the motor stopped. Mr. and Mrs. Lasher reported that the tractor was half-way through the fence and Mr. Moore was lying across the axle of the tractor.

Mr. Moore, a lifelong resident of Carroll county, was born Aug. 31, 1894, on the old homestead of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Young Moore, one mile north and one mile east of Lidderdale. With the exception of a period of about two years spent in Carroll and Glidden, he had always lived in the same community. He had resided at his present home east and north of Lidderdale for a number of years.

June 9, 1915 Mr. Moore was married at Carroll to Miss Bernice Chipman of Glidden, who survives. He also leaves one daughter, Mrs. Earl Pleht (Marian), of Dedham, one son, Charles, at home; two granddaughters; three brothers, John Moore of Washington, Ia., Carl E. Moore of Carroll and Chester Moore of Hillings, Mont., and one half-brother, Merle Moore, of Glidden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ernest, of Hitchcock, S.D., and one sister, Mrs. Bertha Rawstern, of Bonilla, S.D. Mr. Moore was a member of the Methodist Church. He also belonged to Carroll Lodge No. 279, I.O.O.F., of Carroll. He was president of the Liberty school district.
