Ruth Olive Culbertson 1852-1938

Nov 7, 1938 - Carroll Daily - Carroll relatives have recieved word that Mrs. W.L. Culbertson of Worland, Wyo, formerly of Carroll, passed away this morning. Mrs. Culbertson, who was eighty - five years old, had been in failing health for the last few months.

The message stated that burial will probably be in Carroll. Mrs. Culbertson was a sister-in-law of Mrs. R.Y. Culbertson and an aunt of Mrs F.H. Cooney and F.H. Culbertson of Carroll.

A native of Vermont, where she was born Ruth O Johnson, Jan 5, 1853, she came to Carroll with her parents in the early days and spent many years of her life here. She married W.L. Culbertson in 1873 and they resided here for a long period of years. Mr Culbertson, who died in 1908, was president of the First National Bank. While living here, Mrs. Culbertson took a prominent part in the civic and social life of Carroll. She was the organizing regent of Priscilla Alden Chapter, D.A.R. and was a charter member of the Clio Club. In 1909 she and her daughter, Mary, went to Worland, WY to make their home, having resided there since that time.

Surviving are her daughter, Mary of Worland and one son, Commander W.L. Culbertson, retired of Pottstown, PA, who has been with his mother for the last two months. A son, Roger Culbertson, died this spring and another son, Ralph Culbertson, died when a small boy.
