Dec 12, 1912 - Carroll Daily Times - Mrs. Christina Louise Mandelkow passed away at her home on north Carroll street last Saturday the 7th. The deceased has been in fairly good health until recently and her neighbors and friends were pained and surprised to learn of her departure from this life.

The deceased whose maiden name was Christina Budde was born in Germany, at Bude, June 2nd, 1843, and was therefore in the 70th year of her age. She came to America in her early youth and on March 4th, 1866, was married to Charles Mandelkow who died fifteen years ago, on the 9th of this month lacking only two days of 15 years before the departure of the deceased.

They came to Carroll county in 1874, settling in Grant township. On the farm they were more than ordinarily successful and made a fine country home before coming to Carroll in 1896. Since then the family have lived on north Carroll street where the mother with her daughters have enjoyed the serene quiet that should come after a life of unusual activities.

There were 11 children born to Mr. and Mrs Charles Mandelkow, five having died in infancy or early childhood. Those living; all daughters are; Louise, Mrs. John Sieman; Lena, Mrs. Wm. Onken; Anna, Mrs. Fred Kroeger; Ida, Mrs H.F. Sievers; Minnie, Mrs. J.A. Kotas; Emma, Mrs J.H. Goodwin, all living in this vicinity of Carroll.

She was highly respected by neighbors and friends who recognized in her a woman of good heart and useful works. Mr. and Mrs. Mandelkow were for many years members of the Evangelical church, and always lived honest, Christian like lives.
