Mar 27, 1929 - Carroll Times - Funeral services for Charles Summer Lyons were held Thursday afternoon from the First Presbyterian church, Rev. H.C. Schneider officiating. Interment was in the city cemetery.

Charles Summer Lyons, youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Lyons, was born at Carroll, Ia., January 5, 1900, and died at Coffeyville, Kan., on March 17, 1929, at the age of 29 years, two months and 2 days.

Mr. Lyons was highly educated, having graduated from the Carroll high school with the class of 1919. He graduated from the American School of Physical Education of Chicago in 1923 and from the National College of Chiropractic of Chicago in 1925. He taught school in state of Pennsylvania several years.

He was married to Miss Evelyn Witteck of Chicago on January 1, 1927. Mr. Lyons was a licensed pilot having received his license in July last year. He was killed when his plane crashed to the ground.

Mr. Lyons was a young man of sterling character and had every promise of a brilliant future. He possessed a happy, cheerful disposition, and counted his friends by his acquaintances. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Mrs. Charles Lyons; four brothers, Will Lyons of Craword, Neb.; Sherman Lyons of Washngton, D.C.; Arthur Lyons of Cedar Rapids; and Harry Lyons of Carroll; ond one sister, Miss Luverne Lyons of Carroll.

His parents preceded him in death, having died when he was just a small boy. After their death he was lovingly and carefully raised by his older brothers and sister. A quartet composed of Mrs. H.W. Rosenberg, Mrs. J.C. Roberson, Geo. Smith Thomas, and M.J. Shelstad furnished the music at the funeral services. Pallbearers were Ed Dougherty, John Byerly, George Beisch, Leo Beisch, James Conroy, and Clarence Wegman of Dedham.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Chas. S. Lyons and her mother, Mrs. Witteck of Chicago; Will Lyons of Crawford, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lyons of Cedar Rapids; Miss Sara Huber of Solon, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs W.I. Toop and daughter, Elva, of Auburn; Mildred Toon of Denison; Magdalene Toop of Charter Oak; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Marker and daughter, Loris, and Crawford Marker of Jefferson; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Thorn and Mr. and Mrs. Kerwood of Glidden.
