June 8, 1944 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Albert Lauer of San Leandro, Calif., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Subbert of 614 North Clark Street, Carroll, passed away at 7 o'clock last evening at the Arroyo Sanitarium, Livermore, Calif., where she had been a patient since March 14. According to word received by her parents, funeral services will probably be held in California Saturday. The body will then be brought to Carroll for burial. Arrangements for services here have not been completed at this time.

Mrs. Lauer, who was Miss Florence Subbert before her marriage, was 34 years old. Besides her husband she leaves two sons, James, nine years old, and Allen, twenty-two months, her parents, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Sazma (Clara) of Triumph, Minn., and Mrs. C.W. Keck (Anna) of Sioux City.

June 17, 1944 - Carroll Times - Final rites were held at 2 p.m. yesterday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church for Mrs. Albert Lauer of San Leandro, Calif., the former Florence Subbert, who passed away at Livermore, Calif., June 7. The Rev. A.O. Bleeke, pastor, officiated at the service, the musical portion of which included two hymns, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought" and "The Lord Is My Sheperd", sung by a quartet composed of Mrs. Abner Strohm, Mrs. John Backes. Mrs. Curby Sims and Miss Ida Bohl, accompanied by Mrs. Vic Jons, organist. The church rites were preceded by a short service at the Huffman Funeral Home. Burial was in the Carroll Cemetery and pallbearers were Ernest Jacobs of Glidden; Wilbur Wenck of Lake City; Tony Subbert of Fairmont, Minn.; Ervin Harmening of Glidden; and Andrew Wenck and Arnold Platt of Carroll.

Mrs. Lauer, daughter of Charles J. and Katherine Eilts Subbert, was born Oct. 19, 1909, at Lidderdale. In the spring of 1930 she moved with her parents to a farm just north of Carroll, where she was married April 13 of that year to Albert Lauer of Reinbeck.

Mr. and Mrs. Lauer established their home at Reinbeck, where they lived for a few years before returning to Carroll. In 1940 they moved to California and, after a year's residence there, located in Waterloo. In December, 1942, the family left Waterloo to re-establish their home in California, where Mr. Lauer was employed. Mrs. Lauer was baptized and confirmed at the Lidderdale Lutheran Church by the Rev. H.P. Schmidt.

Mr. and Mrs. Lauer were the parents of three children, LaVonne, who preceded her mother in death, James Paul, 9 years old, and Allen Albert, 2. Surviving Mrs. Lauer are her husband and two sons, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Subbert of Carroll, and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Sazma (Clara) of Triumph, Minn., and Mrs. C.W. Keck (Anna) of Sioux City, Iowa.

In the fall of 1943, Mrs. Lauer suffered an attack of flu, after which she did not regain her strength. In February her illness was diagnosed as active tuberculosis. She was taken to a hospital in Oakland, Calif., and on Mar. 14 was moved to the Arroyo Sanitarium at Livermore, where she passed away Wednesday evening, June 7. Her sister, Mrs. Sazma, was with her for seven weeks during the late winter and early spring.
