Nov 1, 1923 - Carroll Times - Mrs. T.B. Broderick died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Macke, in Oakland, Calif., Sunday, October 21, after being in poor health for over a year. Several months ago she underwent an operation at Rochester, Minn., performed by Dr. Will Mayo. The operation revealed that her ailment would prove fatal and that life would be a matter of a few months.

In January, 1923, she went to California to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Macke. At this time she disposed of her household goods and gave up her home. This to her has always been a dear spot as she was a capable and thrifty home keeper and since Jan 1, 1898 until the time of her departure for California had kept house for her son, Edward Broderick.

During the months she was in California her son made frequent trips to see her, and when the message came Saturday, October 20, that she was growing worse, he left immediately for California. When he reached Cheyenne, Wyo., Sunday morning he received another message telling of the death of his mother. He arrived in Oakland Tuesday morning, October 23, and left on the Pacific Limited the afternoon of that day for Carroll, bringing with him his mother's remains for burial.

Funeral services were held at the St. Joseph's church Friday morning at 9 o'clock and were largely attended by relatives and friends of the beloved woman. The beautiful floral offerings bespoke the love and esteem in which she was held.

Mrs. Broderick was born at Wellsville, Ohio, July 28, 1865, her maiden name being Rose Antonini.

She was married to Thomas B. Broderick June 1, 1884, at Wellsville. They first located in Boone, Ia., and were there but a short time when they moved to Kingsley. From there they came to Carroll, locating here in 1889. Since that time Carroll was her home with the exception of a few years which were spent at the home of her daughter in California.

Her husband died in Carroll August 28, 1893, and she was left with three small children, Edward, Will, and Rose (Mrs. J.A. Macke). Her valiant and successful effort to educate her children and keep her home was a beautiful tribute to true womanhood. Mrs. Broderick not only was a good housekeeper and was a beautiful and charming woman. She was a devout Christian woman and took an active part in all the social interests of her church.

In her death one of the truly great women of this community has been removed. May the wind blow softly over the spot where her mortal remains repose, and may the beautiful life she lived among us be emulated by many.

She is survived by her son, E.J. Broderick, and daughter, Mrs. J.A Macke, her son, Will, having died in Sacramento, Calif., January 13, 1919.

Relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Antonini and Mrs Kriesemint, of Chicago; Mrs. Sam Woster and daughter, Grace, Mrs Tom Lynch, Mrs. Nick Peters and M.J. O'Donnell, of Boone; Mr. and Mrs. P.J. McAndrews, and daughter Rose, of Sterling, Illinois.
