March 4, 1998 - Carroll Daily Times - A funeral service for Earl Frederick Meiers of Carroll will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 6, 1998, at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.

Mr. Meiers, 79, of 404 W. Fourth St., died Tuesday, March 3, 1998, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Omaha, Neb., following a short illness. Pastor Charles Haake of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll will officiate the service. Casket bearers will be Jerry Rust, Earl Hulsing, Charlie Hill, Robert Henrich, Jim Wittmaack and Matt Bauer. Burial will be in Carroll Cemetery with military honors by Maurice Dunn American Legion Post No. 7 of Carroll. Friends will call after 4 Thursday afternoon at Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 Thursday night at the funeral home.

A son of William and Lena (Hargens) Meiers, he was born May 18, 1918, at Westside. He was baptized Dec. 20, 1925, at Westside, attended Westside schools and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1932. Mr. Meiers was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from 1942 to 1944.

He and Luella Farrell were married married July 10, 1943, at Long Beach, Calif. A former railroad worker, Mr. Meiers was a welder at Heider Manufacturing Co. of Carroll for 29 years until retiring in 1978. Mr. Meiers, a 49-year resident of Carroll, was hospitalized Jan. 22.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands: Barbara and Charles Berndt of Nixa, Mo., and Carol and Dean Cerny of Fairbury, Neb.; three sons: James Meiers and his wife, Karen, of Lubbock, Texas, Donald Meiers and his fiancee, LoAnna Thul, of Carroll and David Meiers and his wife, Meshelle, of Rolla, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

Mr. Meiers was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Luella, in 1992; five sisters: Helen O'Leary, Emma Hagga, Mamie Schaffer, Loretta Farrell, and Elsie Meiers; four brothers: Bill, Louie, Pete, and Jack Meiers; and a grandson, Tony.
