Death of Mrs. Henry Powell

Mrs. Henry Powell, nee Frances E. Banister, was born in England April 16, 1849. At the age of about 7 years she came with her parents to this country and on March 29, 1867, was united in marriage to Henry Powell at Boone, Ia. To this union six children were born, five surviving at this time.

Mr. and Mrs. Powell resided in Carroll for a number of years and it was here that Mr. Powell passed away 10 years ago. Mrs. Powell continued to make her home here until four years ago and for the past few months has been making her home with her two daughters in Tilden, Neb. It was when living here that she suffered a severe nervous shock when informed of the sudden death of her son, William, on July 16. This shock weakened her considerably, leaving her an easy victim for the last illness, which lasted only a week and she died Friday afternoon at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 12 days.

The remains were brought to Carroll Sunday evening accompanied by the children, and the funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Methodist church, with Rev. Handy in charge. The quartet at the funeral was composed of Mrs. W. J. Forrest, Mrs. R. H. Lott, Clyde Bayliss and E. W. Martin.

Following are the children who mourn the loss of a good, kind mother, one who was always faithful to her home and her children and who was a life long member of the M. E. church, holding a membership in the church at Stuart, Neb., at the time of her death. Mrs. Anna Sornborger, Kansas City; Mrs. Mary Steepls, Tilden, Neb.; Mrs. Alice Bowden, Stuart, Neb.; Flossie Powell, Tilden, Neb.; Fred Powell, Chadron, Neb.; and Vera Powell Ross of Manning while but a granddaughter will also miss the loss of the only mother she has ever known, having made her home with her grandmother until the time of her marriage.
