Mrs. S. W. Peck

Mrs. S. W. Peck passed away at her home in this city early Tuesday morning after suffering a stroke of paralysis Friday. She had not been in good health for several months and the family and friends had been greatly worried over her condition. On Thursday morning, however, she spent some time working in her flower garden, making arrangements for planting the seeds. As late as Sunday she wished to sit up a while and asked one of her sons to put her in her comfortable chair.

During her entire life Mrs. Peck was a devout Christian woman, having affiliated with the Methodist church at an early age. She was one of those wholesome, good women whom it is a pleasure to meet, always a kindly word of greeting for her friends and a willingness to help anyone in need.

As a girl Mrs. Peck was Miss Addie B. Scott and was born near Westerville, O., in 1845. In 1865 she was united in marriage to David Hanby of that place and in 1869 they moved to Poweshiek county, Iowa. Two years later they moved to Carroll county and since that time Mrs. Hanby has been either a resident of this city or the county.

Of the four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Hanby two died in infancy. The surviving sons are W. W. Hanby of Spirit Lake and E. M. Hanby of this city.

Mr. Hanby passed away in this city July 9, 1911, and in October 1912, Mrs. Hanby was united in marriage to S. W. Peck, who survives.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock and were largely attended by friends of the family.

Rev. Elias Handy and Rev. F. G. Codd preached the funeral service.

A quartet composed of Mrs. W. J. Forrest, Rev. Elias handy, Mrs. R. H. Lott and L. L. Shoemaker sang appropriate selections.
