Death of F. J. Hoogestraat

Prominent Citizen of Arcadia Died Last Thursday

It is with sorrow we are again compelled to chronicle the sudden death of one of our old pioneers, Fred J. Hoogestraat, who passed to the unknown world beyond with heart failure last Thursday morning. The deceased was well to do in earthly possessions and an exemplary citizen. He leaves nine grown children to mourn the loss of a beloved father. They are John, Alice, Fred J., Anna, Florence, Maggie, William, Tina and Hannah, the latter three being minors. Besides the above, Mr. H. leaves three brothers and one sister, Dick, William and John and Mrs. Wm. Folken, all of whom are living near Lenox, S. D., who are all here to pay their last respects to the deceased, who was laid to rest in the Bruggeman cemetery with Rev. Huendling officiating. The funeral took place from the house where Rev. Huendling preached a sermon fitting the occasion.

Fred J. Hoogestraat of Arcadia died at his home May 5 after a brief illness. The deceased was born in Germany in 1845. He immigrated to this country in 1867, and came to Carroll county in 1872 and settled near Arcadia where he resided until his death. His wife, who had shared his cares and sorrows for so many years, preceded him to the home beyond by a little over a year.
