LeMars

Funeral for Leo Wendl of LeMars will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2001, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LeMars.

Mr. Wendl, 89, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars. Rev. Andrew Hoffman will officiate and burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in LeMars.

Friends called today at Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars. A Knights of Columbus rosary will be recited at 7 and an 8 p.m. scriptural service will follow at the funeral home.

A son of John and Mary (Danzer) Wendl, he was born April 30, 1912, at Coon Rapids. He grew up near Dedham and attended St. Joseph's School in Dedham and St. Mary's School in Willey.

Mr. Wendl married Frances Gehling on May 5, 1936, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Chuch in Carroll.

The couple farmed in the Carroll, Gilmore City and Fonda areas until 1957, when they moved to LeMars, where Mr. Wendl owned the John Deere implement dealership.

His wife Frances died on Dec. 28,1976.

Mr. Wendl married Alvina (Werner) Schreck on Nov. 26, 1977, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dedham.

The Wendls from 1977 to 1997 lived in LeMars and wintered in Mesa, Ariz.

Mr. Wendl was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in LeMars and of the Knights of Columbus, Trinity Council No. 1466 in LeMars.

Survivors include his wife Alvina of LeMars; three daughters and two sons; three stepchildren; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a step-grandchild; three sisters, Agnella Meiners of Dedham, Sister Joan Marie Wendl, FSPA of LaCrosse, Wis., and Sister Lydia Wendl, FSPA of Las Vegas, Nev.; a brother, Victor Wendl and his wife, Marie, of Carroll; and a sister in- law, Irene Wendl of Carroll.

Mr. Wendl was preceded in death by his first wife.
