David Allen Passed Away at Clarinda Hospital Wednesday

Word was received here Wednesday of the sudden death of David Allen at Clarinda, due to a fall and an attack of apoplexy. He had been a patient there the past five years and all hopes of his recovery had been given up. He was home last year for several months. He was one of the pioneer settlers of this county. For twenty years he followed the vocation of farming north of here. He had been ailing the past 14 years and it seemed that his illness was worse the past ten years.

David Allen was born in Dunbar, Scotland, January 17, 1824. He came to this country in 1855 and located in Buchanan county, this state. In 1865 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Johnson, of Fairbanks, Iowa. To this union were born ten children, three of which died in infancy. The living are J. W., Walter S., Chas. A., and Mrs. Livingston, of Carroll; Mrs. M. C. Heckert, of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. T. W. Satterwhite, of Ellensburg, Washington. All of them are here and will attend the funeral which will probably be held tomorrow afternoon, except Mrs. Satterwhite, who was unable to come because of the distance. The remains have not arrived at this writing but are expected this evening and interment will be made in the Carroll cemetery. Deceased leaves a host of friends who will sympathize with the children in their bereavement.
