Death of Henry Enenbach

In the death of Henry Enenbach of this city, which occurred on Saturday, January 7, this community loses one of its most highly respected citizens. His death was due to heart failure and up to within a few hours of the sudden end he seemed in the best of health and was joking and laughing in his usual manner. Deceased was a man of good moral character. He always gladly assisted those that were in need and always willing to extend a helping hand. He met most of life's conditions with a smile. He was a practical business man of keen perception, careful and thrifty. It was the writers fortune to have known him all his life and as a neighbor the past three years and as the time rolled by we grew to esteem him more highly. Today we miss his kindly smile and friendly greeting that we enjoyed so much, we long in vain to hear the ring of his jovial laughter and to feel again his genial presence. Only a few days ago he was in our midst but today mother earth claims his body as her own. Mr. Enenbach was a devout Catholic, a member of St. Joseph's society. He was a devoted husband and kind father and the blow to his family is indeed a hard one.

Henry Enenbach was born in Roth Geiztigen, Cologne, Germany, September 3, 1845. He was at the time of his death 65 years, 4 months and 3 days of age. In 1847 his parents came to this country and located in Mendota, Illinois, where he resided until 1872, when he came to Iowa, with his two brothers, Wm. and Frank. They traveled by wagon to Carroll where a real estate man showed them Wheatland township and they were so favorably impressed that they bought neighboring farms and there they resided until the other two brothers died, and Henry moved to Arcadia three years ago. In 1879 he was united in marriage to Miss Christine Walterscheid at Arcadia by Rev. Father Pape. To this union were born five children all of whom are living as follows: Mrs. Peter Heiman, Mrs. Henry Terlisner, Mrs. Geo. Thieman and Frank and Maggie. The surviving relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their sorrow.

The funeral services were held from St. John's church Tuesday morning and Rev. Father Schulte read Solemn Requiem Mass over the departed. At the close of the ceremonies a long procession of mourning friends, headed by St. Joseph's society, followed the remains to the grave in the Catholic cemetery and thus paid their last sad respects to one whom they had loved and respected in life. May his soul rest in peace.
