Funeral for Private Berger

Funeral services for Private Charles Berger, of Mt. Carmel, who died at Astoria, Oregon, with bronchial pneumonia, were held at St. Mary's church, Mt. Carmel, saturday morning. At the solemn funeral services Rev. J. G. Berger, of Manning, was celebrant, Father Baumler was deacon of the mass, and Father Cordes sub-deacon.

The Home Guards of Carroll acted as pall bearers and the funeral was largely attended by friends.

Private Martin, of Astoria, Oregon, accompanied the body and carried the following message to Mrs. Frank Berger, mother of the deceased young man: "Private Berger was an excellent soldier, was recommended to be promoted to a corporal, and was universally liked by his officers and fellow soldiers, and his unfortunate death is a source of genuine sorrow to us all.
