Donald "Don" Joseph Frank
Windom, Minn.

Mass of the Christian Burial for Donald "Don" Joseph Frank, 81, of Windom, Minn., formerly of Carroll, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday Dec. 4, 2009 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom, Minn. Fr. John Von Tobel, J.S. will officiate.

Mr. Frank died Monday, Nov. 30, 2009, at his home in Windom.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 3, 2009, at the LaCanne Family Funeral Home in Windom, Minn., where there will be a rosary and prayer service by the parish at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Burial with Military honors by the American Legion Post No. 206 of Windom will be in the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery at Windom, Minn.

Vocalist for the Mass will be Nadine Forman and the organist will be Colleen Ortmann. Lector will be Tony Frank. Gift bearers will be Crystal Barlow, Jessica Unger and Nicole Tabbut. Ushers will be jim Bregel and Leo Bartosh.

Honorary casket bearers will be Troy Frank, Brett Frank, Billy Barlow, Donny Unger, Wig Turner, Larry Bressler, Jonathan Adrian and ben Adrian.

A son of Albert and Cecilia (Winker) Frank, he was born May 31, 1928, in Milwaukee, Wis. He was baptized at a young age at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Milwaukee and confirmed in that same church on May 20, 1940. He received his early education at St. Leo's Catholic Church and later finished his education at Messner Catholic High School. In July of 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army and first served in the82nd Airbourne Division (paratroopers) and then waspart of the 11th Constabulary Regiment in Germany, known as the "Circle C Cowboys" and was the last horse mounted combat patrol in U.S. history patrolling the zonal borders and based in Stuttgard, Germany. In Sept. of 1947, he was honorably discharged and returned to Milwaukee. In 1948, he moved to Carroll.

On May 3, 1949, he married Maxine Bayliss at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Carroll. The couple moved to Windom, where Don farmed until retiring in 1983.

Recently, his health had been declining and he was placed in hospice in his home.

Mr. Frank was a long time member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom, Minn., where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 206 in Windom. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.

Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Maxine Frank of Windom, Minn.; four children: Alan Frank of Fergus Falls, Minn., Kent Frank of Windom, Minn., Linda Unger of Worthington, Minn. and Gail Barlow-Hulm of Windom, Minn.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Darleen Berkness of fergus Falls, Minn.; and Garry Frank and wife, Nancy of Urbandale.

Mr. Frank w3as preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Michael Unger; and a sister, Fayetta Froze.
