Mrs. Nancy A. Ramsey, daughter of James and Jane Richey was born in Wayne Co. Ohio Aug. 25, 1834. In her early youth she united with the Christian church, but in 1887 she united with the M. E. church during the labors of Rev. T. S. Brown at the Hardie school house. She remained a loyal and consistent member of this church to the day of her death which occurred February 1, 1906, at the home of her son Chas. H. Ramsey, near Botna, Ia. She was married to James Hanford Ramsey in Osceola, Ohio, March 5, 1853. To them were born ten children, seven of whom are living. All but one of them were enabled to be present at her bed side at the time of her death. The son in Oklahoma being delayed on the way, arriving a few hours too late for the funeral.

She was a faithful wife and mother and her children all hold her memory as a sacred possession. Everyone who knew her valued her as a kind friend and neighbor who sacrificed her own comfort to administer to the needs of others. Countless are the times she has gone to bring comfort and cheer to the sick and dying. “Mother Ramsey” was indeed a mother to everyone who was in need of help and good nursing in time of sickness.

She was left a widow in March, 1900. Since that time she has made her home with her children waiting for the summons which finally came calling her to the heavenly home to which she expressed an earnest desire to go only a few hours before her death. For her was it indeed true that “to live in Christ, to die is gain.” Her body was taken to Dedham for burial beside her husband. The funeral services being conducted by Rev. Rink of the M. E. church.
