PAPE, STENDIKE

I translated the following article and obituary from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. They were originally published on Friday, 15 March 1895 and Friday, 22 March 1895. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

[15 March 1895]
A few days ago Hermann Pape received a report from the family of his brother, Conrad Pape, who lives on a farm near Dyersville [in Dubuque County, Iowa] that Conrad is terminally ill and confined to bed with Bright’s kidney disease. Hermann Pape then traveled there last Wednesday to see and speak with his brother once more before he passes away.

[22 March 1895]
Just last week the Demokrat reported that Conrad Pape was confined to bed with Bright’s kidney disease and that his situation was terminal. Today we must bring the sad news that his sufferings are at an end and he has given his spirit over to his Creator. Jos. Stendike, who was a close friend of the deceased for many years, received the report of death by telegraph on Wednesday morning at 11:00. Conrad Pape was born in Sidinghausen [Siddinghausen], County of Bueren, Westphalia, and came to America as a youth and achieved financial success as a farmer through hard work and perseverance. He was beloved and respected by all who knew him. The deceased was a member of the Roman Catholic Mutual Aid Society of Iowa. The burial takes place today.
