I translated the following obituary from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published on Friday, 29 March 1895. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

Arcadia

Last Saturday morning at eight o’clock, Mr. Gottfried Henkenius passed away after having received the Last Rights of the Catholic Church. He was a little over 73 years of age, and on Monday his remains were committed to mother earth in a ceremony officiated over by Rev. Jos. Schulte and in the company of a large number of mourners. The deceased leaves behind a widow and eleven children, of whom the youngest is just over eight years old, who deeply mourn the loss of their husband and father. Our deepest sympathies to the survivors. Mr. Jos. Schelle and wife from Breda, Fritz Reiman and family, and Mrs. John Witt from Templeton paid their respects to the deceased by their presence.
