I translated the following obituary from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published on Friday, 29 July 1912. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

The deceased, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerhard Schulte, was born on 30 May 1843 in Linnen, Germany. Her mother died when the present deceased was still a small girl.
On 26 May 1869 she arrived at Boone, Iowa with her father, and a year later she moved to Mt. Carmel [in Carroll County]. There, on 15 June 1872, she married Mr. Joseph Schaefers. The marriage was performed by Rev. Heimbucher, pastor of St. Mary’s Parish in Mt. Carmel. Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer then moved to their farm south of Breda.
In addition to her spouse, the deceased is survived by the following children: Lena, Mrs. Herman Wuebker; Margaret, Mrs. Val. Underberg; Gertrude, Mrs. John Fossing; Conrad; John; Joseph; Katherine; and Elisabeth. A son, Heinrich, died in childhood, and a daughter, Anna, died on 3 June 1911. The deceased is also survived by a brother, J. B. Schulte in Willowdale, Kansas, and a sister, Mrs. Maria Gottloeb in Canada.
The deceased was an active member of St. Bernard’s Parish in Breda, Iowa.
The funeral ceremony took place on Saturday, 18 July 1912 at the St. Bernard’s Church in Breda. On the occasion a solemn Requiem was celebrated, in which the following clergymen participated: Rev. F. H. Huesmann of Mt. Carmel; Rev. Jos. Schulte of Arcadia; Rev. G. Luehrsmann and Rev. Edgar Schleyer of Breda.
May the departed rest in peace.
