I translated the following obituary from Der Carroll Demokrat, a German-language newspaper published in Carroll, Iowa, between about 1874 and 1920. It was originally published on Friday, 13 July 1894. Any information in brackets or notes at the end are my own explanations. It reads as follows:

[Theo. Lammers]

Last Friday morning, “Vater” Theo. Lammers, blessed in the Lord, passed away following a short illness. He was in his 83rd year of life and was loved and respected by all. The solemn burial was held on Sunday. The entire community followed him to the burial place. His death is mourned by his son, Johann, and [daughter] Mrs. Albert Hermsen of Council Bluffs, as well as their families, many friends, and acquaintances.
