Taken from the Lidderdale Centennial Book:
John Philip Lasher was born May 20, 1832 in Columbia County, New York. At the age of 24 years he was married to Miss Elizabeth Magley. To this union four sons were born: the eldest died at birth, John J. Lasher of Letcher, South Dakota, Dan Lasher of Glidden, Iowa and Egbert Lasher who died at age 2. A nephew, Fred J. Lasher was brought along to Iowa and made his home with them.
In 1871 the family came to Carroll County, Iowa, settling in Sheridan Twp. on a prairie farm which was improved from year to year. They purchased the land from the Railroad Company for $8.00 per acre. Mr Lasher was a staunch Democrat, took an active interest in political affairs and held several offices. He was confirmed in the Lutheran church and was a regular attendant of the Methodist church of East Liberty for many years. John P. Lasher died Oct. 18, 1922, at the age of 90 years. Funeral services were held at his son's home, Dan Lasher. Burial was at the Mount Hope Cemetery, located only one and 1/4 miles from the Lasher's homestead. When John P. came to Carroll County, there was only a single grave at Mount Hope Cemetery. Elizabeth Magley was born August 19, 1837. She died Sept. 27, 1925 at the age of 88 years
