Izetta June Peterson
(June 8, 1922 - December 1, 2020)

Izetta J. Peterson – age 98, of Pocahontas, formerly of rural Fonda, passed away Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at Arlington Place in Pocahontas, Iowa. Izetta June Nordlund, the oldest daughter of Sigfrid and Mabel (Anderson) Nordlund, was born in Albert City on June 8, 1922. She grew up in Chicago and Albert City, graduating from Albert City High School in 1940. Her class motto, “A Live Wire Never Gets Stepped On,” fit her perfectly! Izetta attended beauty school and worked at a salon in Des Moines during the war years while Maynard served in the Coast Guard. They were united in marriage on March 7, 1946, at the Albert City Covenant Church. Following a wedding trip to Chicago, they lived on the family farm near Fonda where they raised four children – Janet, Ron, Gary, and Kurt. Izetta lived on the farm for 70 years before moving to Arlington Place in 2017. Izetta was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. She enjoyed her daily Bible devotions, singing in the choir, and being part of Covenant Women. Izetta had many talents and hobbies. Some of her favorites included gardening, giving family haircuts, baking, crocheting, and oil painting. Over the years she compiled several family histories and over 50 photo albums and 80 scrapbooks! She and Maynard enjoyed traveling and attending Svenska Klubben events. Izetta liked following her kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids through sports and music – Friday night would find her in the bleachers keeping her scorecard and cheering them on. Survivors include her children, Janet (Tom) Weidauer of Pomeroy; Ron (Corinne) Peterson of Pocahontas; Gary (Betty) Peterson of Des Moines; Kurt Peterson of Las Cruces, NM; 9 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Maurice Peterson of Albert City; nieces, nephews, and other extended family, as well as neighbors and friends. Izetta was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maynard in 1999; brother, Roland Nordlund; sisters, Vivian Christoffers and Joyce Peterson, and infant great-granddaughter Lily Peterson.
