Elijah Wallace Clark
(November 3, 1864 – August 24, 1936)

Obituary
Elijah Wallace Clark was born in McLean County, Ill., Nov. 3, 1864. In that vicinity he grew to manhood. He engaged in farming for a short time, later residing in Glen Avon, Ill., where he conducted a grain and livestock business. On Jan. 13, 1885, he was united in marriage to Martha Esther Daniel. To this union four children were born; Arthur, who now resides in Glendale, Calif., Elizabeth, Dwight and Lena Alta, all of whom were with him at the time of his sudden passing. Mar. 1, 1901, the family arrived in Rockwell City on an immigrant train which carried some 30 families from their Illinois homes to this community. Mr. Clark entered the furniture business in which he continued for the major part of his 35 years here. The illness of Mrs. Clark some three and a half years ago made it necessary for him to discontinue his activity and devote all of his time to her care. In early childhood he united with the Methodist Episcopal church and has been a member throughout his life. His illness was of short duration. He was apparently recovering from a previous heart attack when again stricken Aug. 24 while walking across a room in his home. It is believed his life was immediately taken away. Besides his widow and four children he is survived by four granddaughters and two great grandchildren.
