Obituary – Mrs. Bent Peterson
Sybil Amy Clow was born July 6, 1889, near Manson, Ia., a daughter of William Henry and Emma Clow. Her death occurred Sunday, Mar. 24, 1935, at McVay hospital, Lake City, Ia., at the age of 45 years, 8 months, and 18 days. When Sybil was a small girl, the family moved to Hamilton County, where they lived for 17 years before returning to Calhoun County. On Mar. 14, 1916 she was united in marriage with Bent Peterson. To this union three sons and four daughters were born, one boy living but 8 days. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson lived at Terril, Ia., from 1916 to 1928, and in Canada from 1928 to 1934, when they came to Calhoun County. This winter five of the six children had measles, and Mrs. Peterson went beyond her strength in caring for them in addition to her usual work. Pneumonia developed, and she lasted less than three weeks. Her passing is mourned by her husband, Bent Peterson; by her children, John Lyle, Emma Jean, Isabel Agnes, Irene Iola, Marie Elizabeth, and William Charles; by her mother, Mrs. Emma Clow, of Rockwell City; by two brothers, Clifford E., of Los Angeles, Cal., and Lloyd Lyle of Bakersfield, Cal.; by two sisters, Mrs. M. D. Harlow of Redondo Beach, Cal., and Alice of Rockwell City; and by other relatives and many friends. She is remembered as gentle and kind, and a hard worker, as a faithful wife and good mother who always put the interests of her family above her own. Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Rockwell City with the Rev. N. A. Price, pastor of that church, officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
