Lela Mae Titus
(February 2, 1923 - June 4, 2022)Lela Mae, age 99 of Wall Lake, IA, formerly of Lake City, IA, passed away on Saturday, June 4, 2022, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, IA. Lela Mae (Painter) Titus was born on February 2, 1923, in Wakefield, IL to Alvin and Bessie (Painter). She graduated from Lake City High School in 1941. On September 9, 1943, Lela Mae married Ralph Titus in Bethany, MO. Together, they celebrated 76 ½ years of marriage. They were married in a double ceremony with Ralph’s sister Norma and Johnny Berkler. Lela Mae was a very dedicated farmwife. She drove the tractors, helped bale, and helped Ralph’s dad pick corn and put it in the corn crib. She also drove trucks and hauled the grain to town. She always had great meals and lunches to fuel the help. Lela Mae was very involved in church. She was both a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, Presbyterian Women’s President, Honorary member for eight years as an Elder, 14 years as sewing supply chairman, and chairman for funeral dinner for 40 plus years. She was very devoted to keeping the church looking nice. She stripped all the wood in the church basement, varnished it, and then painted the entire basement. Lela Mae was president of the neighborhood club. She ironed and cleaned houses for seven different families in Lytton. She also ran a restaurant in Lytton for four years. She cooked and kept the place spotless. Along with all of the other memberships she held, Lela Mae was also a member of the Eastern Star and was a worthy matron for four years. In her free time, she loved playing cards and was in several bridge clubs. Two daughters survive Lela Mae: Linda Potts of Lake City, IA, and Martha (Jim) Potts of Lake City, IA; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph; parents; daughter Peggy Owen; brothers Raymond, Jim (June), TJ, and Richard (Ester); Sister Melva (Bill) Mosher; son-in-law Ron Potts.
