Joseph Luther Bradly
(July 25, 1865 – October 26, 1960)Lake City – Funeral services for J. L. Bradly, 95, Lake City, were held Oct. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Lake City. The Rev. John Lewis officiated. Pallbearers were Floyd Wellington, Bernard Willis, Arthur Lundberg, Mike VanAhn, H. B. McConkey and Mason Ross. Burial, in charge of the Karn Funeral Home, was in Cottonwood Cemetery.
Joseph Luther Bradly, son of James Francis Marion and Judea A. Burnett Bradly, was born July 25, 1865, in Johnson County, Mo. He came with his parents to Adair County when he was ten years old. His father was a stockbuyer and meat market operator, and he learned that business in his father’s shop. He came to Lake City and was employed in a meat market which he later bought and operated until his retirement in 1944. On Nov. 18, 1894, he was married to Minnie Laura Gabriel at the Lake City Presbyterian Church, of which both were members. Mrs. Bradly died Aug. 30, 1958. Mr. Bradly was active in church and Sunday School. He served on the board of trustees of the Lake City Presbyterian Church for a number of years. Prior to his death, he was, in point of years, its oldest living member. He served as councilman and was active in the community in other ways. He was a member of the Royal Arch Masons of Iowa and Zerubbabel Lodge, Lake City. In Sept. 1960 he was awarded his 50 year pin. He died Oct. 26, having been in frail health for some time. His parents, wife, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by one sister, Mrs. Maud McClune, San Pedro, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.
