Lyle D. Hawkins
(June 27, 1868 – December 25, 1951)

Obituary
Lake City – L. D. Hawkins, son of Abraham Hackleman Hawkins and Sarah Rebecca Dicken, was born on a farm near Altoona, Iowa, on June 27, 1868, and departed this life at the home of his daughter in Des Moines, Iowa on Christmas day, 1951, at the age of 83 years, 5 months, and 28 days. Mr. Hawkins remained on the farm until he was about 19 years of age when he took up photography and went on the road with a portable gallery. He located at Early, where he met and married Myra Olivia Stevens in 1890. They moved immediately to Lake City where he established a permanent residence, and has continued in the photographic business for the past 61 years, being the oldest active business man in this community at the time of his passing. His wife preceded him in death in 1942. Five children were born into the home. Ruth Iva passed away in 1901. The other children, all of whom survive, are Merle of Lake City; Marye (Mrs. Louis Weisbrod) of Des Moines; Howard of Des Moines; and Earl of Chicago, Ill. There are also three grandchildren, MaryLou Weisbrod, and Eugene and Vickie Lynn Hawkins of Des Moines. He also leaves one sister, Estee Hawkins of Des Moines. Mr. Hawkins was an active member of Woodlawn Church of Christ. He served as deacon for many years, and held other offices, and for many years was a member of the choir. For years he played in the Lake City band, and was connected at various times with other musical organizations, among them the fife and drum corps which used to be prominent in Memorial Day observances.
