(March 17, 1885 - November 9, 1939)

L. W. Evans Laid To Rest
Funeral For Prominent Citizen Held Monday
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at the Presbyterian church for L. W. Evans, whose death occurred Friday, Nov. 10, at his home here. Rev. Gaylord M. Couchman, officiated at the service and at the graveside in Lake City Cemetery the beautiful Masonic ritualistic rites were conducted by his brother Masons. Louzern W. Evans, a beloved citizen of this community, was born near Dodgeville, Wis. , March 17, 1885, the son of Thomas M. and Margaret J. Evans and lived in that community until twenty years of age, when he entered the service of the Chicago & North Western Railroad at Sioux City, Iowa. Iowa was destined to be his home, for after leaving the railroad service in 1915, he established himself in business at Lake City which place has since been his home. He was married to Miss Edna M. Storey March 22, 1910, and to them were born two children, Margaret E. (Mrs. John H. Rathjen), of Ida Grove, Iowa and Dorothy S. (Mrs. A. M. Elder) of Toledo, Ohio, all of whom survive him and were with him at the time of his death. He is also survived by three brothers and three sisters. Lou, as he was familiarly known, was keenly interested in the welfare and up-building of his community and was ever sympathetic to those who had met with misfortune and sorrow. He was a member of the Masonic order at the time of his death, and of other community organizations from time to time. During the past year, he joined the Presbyterian church, but contributed to Christian work throughout the years. His faith in God and in a better life beyond, was the bulwark that supported him throughout his illness, and despite the severity of his suffering, he did not rebel. Lou’s wholehearted personality was an inspiration to all with whom he was associated. His sympathetic understanding, generous nature and dynamic character will long be remembered.
