(February 27, 1931 - March 21, 2023)

Marjorie Burley, age 92, of Lake City, IA, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA. Marjorie Ann was born on February 27, 1931, in Cedar Falls, IA. Her parents are Otto and Emma (Wilson) Franck. She grew up in Rockwell City, IA, and was baptized at the Presbyterian Church. Marjorie graduated from Rockwell City High School with the class of 1949 and continued her education at Iowa State University for one year. On September 3, 1950, Marjorie was united in marriage to Charles Burley at the Rockwell City Presbyterian Church. This union was blessed with three children: Debora, Stephen, and Robert. Marjorie was the definition of a great farmwife. At the start of their marriage, she did not know how to cook but evolved into a great cook. She always had lunch ready every day at noon and would help where ever she was needed, such as driving the chase wagon and helping with changing fields. Marj and Chuck enjoyed 58 years of married life until his death. They enjoyed pinochle card parties, homemade ice cream get-togethers with the neighbors, attending family events, and traveling. Marjorie was a member of Woodlawn Christian Church and it was a big part of her life for many years. In recent years she was not able to volunteer as much as she would have liked. Marjorie was also a china painter. Marjorie started painting china in 1975. She and her sister-in-law, Arlene Blair, spent many hours together attending china painting conventions, seminars, and club meetings. She was especially proud of her china painting exhibit at the Fort Dodge Public Library in November 2022. Marj also gave as gifts many personalized porcelain baby shoes and ornaments she had painted. She was a member of the China Painters Gallery of Fort Dodge and the Iowa World Organization of China Painters. Marj enjoyed taking care of her much-loved dog Jake, cooking, reading, gardening, mowing her lawn, getting her hair done every Friday, and visiting with friends and family. She enjoyed every moment spent with her family and grandchildren and making her famous Santa cookies. She was a great friend to many and will be dearly missed by those that knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Debora (Rod) Tokheim of Clinton, IA, and Robert Burley of Lake City, IA; grandchildren: Nicholas (Rita) Burley, Adam Burley, Branden (Samantha) Tokheim, Collin Tokheim, Brandon (Brittany) Burley, Hailey Burley, Stephan Wilson, Amanda Christiansen, and Chris (Tiffany) Green; great-grandchildren: Nathan and Kathryn Burley, Parker, Hudson, and Natalie Tokheim, Michelle Burley, Claire, and Adalyn Green, and Gabriel Christiansen; daughter-in-law: Sue (Tom) Baer; sisters-in-law: Phyllis Remsburg, Grace Hucka, and Janet Toms; cousin: Margaret (Merrill) Russell; very close nieces and nephews: Tammie Franck, Shanda (Chris) Nicely, Mark (Chris) McArthur, and Margie McArthur; and many loved nieces and nephews on the Burley side of the family. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Charles; son Stephen; parents Otto and Emma (Wilson) Frank; birth parents Otis and Marjorie (Wilson) Budlong; siblings: Robert W. Franck, Otis Budlong, and Mary McArther. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family or to Woodlawn Christian Church.
