Irene Els, age 94, passed away on May 12, 2012, at the Pomeroy Care Center. Irene Ruth Rosenboom was born on April 12, 1918, at Pomeroy. She was the daughter of Fred and Hannah (Folkerts) Rosenboom. She was educated in area country schools. On January 16, 1958, Irene married John Els at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. The couple made their home on their farm north of Pomeroy. Irene worked at McCarty's Grocery Store and later as a postal clerk at the Pomeroy Post Office. John passed away on January 12, 1963, and shortly after that, Irene moved into Pomeroy. She entered the Assisted Living center in October of 2010. Irene was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and had been a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed quilting and antiquing in her spare time. Survivors include her daughter: Jaci (Bill) Imberger of Taos, NM; grandchildren: Alaina and Keith, both of Taos; sister: Marian Rosenboom of Pomeroy; three step-children: Elaine, Marcia and Mary Ellen and several nieces and nephews.
