(December 19, 1920 - January 19, 2012)

Robert S. Hersom, 91, of Pomeroy, passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital. Robert Samuel DeLoss Hersom was born on December 19, 1920, on the family farm west of Fonda. He graduated from Fonda High School in 1939. Robert farmed with his father until 1942, when he entered the army during World War II and served until 1945. He was awarded the Bronze Star during the Italian Campaign. He was married to Julia Roese at St. John Lutheran Church, Pomeroy, on September 21, 1958. They were married for 53 years. They lived on the family farm until September, 1993, when they moved to Pomeroy. They were blessed with one son, Keith, who farmed with his father. Robert especially loved spending time with his grandsons. Robert was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Fonda Legion, and a long time board member of the Cedar Township Trustees. Survivors include his wife, Julia, daughter-in-law, LeAnne (Milo) Wernimont, grandsons, Kyle Hersom, Emmetsburg, Brandon, Tyler, and Jared Hersom, niece, Myrna King, nephew, Rodney Nelson, all of Pomeroy, great-nieces a great-nephew and two step-grandchildren.
