R. Wayne Bridwell, age 75, of Pomeroy, passed away on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. Roy Wayne Bridwell was born July 9, 1947, in Beech Grove, Indiana. He was the son of Roy Edward and Mary Francis (Cross) Bridwell. Roy grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana where he attended Grade School #3 and Arsenal Technical High School. Following high school, he entered the U.S. Army serving in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968. His special honors in the military included marksmen, Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars, and Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device. After Wayne’s time in the military, he moved to Iowa, where he earned his Associates of Arts Degree from Sioux Empire College in Hawarden. On March 20, 1976, Wayne was united in marriage to Marlene Schwardt at St. John Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. The couple settled in Pomeroy where they raised their family. Wayne worked as a machinist at Iowa Industrial Hydraulics near Pocahontas for 30 years, where he became very skilled in metal lathe work. Marlene passed away in 2006, and Wayne continued to make his home in Pomeroy. Wayne enjoyed woodworking, drawing, painting, metal lathe work, and gardening in his free time. Survivors include his daughters; Melanie (Michael) Klaassen of Pomeroy, and Jannifer Bridwell of Pomeroy; grandchildren, Michaela Klaassen, Andrea (Conner) Hiatt, and Jacob Klaassen; brothers, Ron (Karen) Bridwell, Ray (Sharon) Bridwell, Paul (Jan) Heide, and Allen Bridwell, and sisters, Marcia Bridwell, Pam (Bob) Harter, Patty Ingle, Peggy Bridwell, Michelle Bridwell, and Christina (John) Bridwell. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene; his parents; son, Dewey Bridwell; granddaughter, Erika Klaassen, and brothers, David Bridwell, Phillip Heide, and Michael Bridwell.
