JoAnn Mavis Alspach
(August 9, 1935 - July 4, 2023)

JoAnn Alspach, age 87 of Lohrville, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. JoAnn Mavis and her twin sister Joyce Avis were born on August 9, 1935, to parents Leonard and Rose (Peddycoart) Hardy in Dundee, MN. She attended school and graduated from Lake City high school. JoAnn was blessed with three children: Jaki, Mike, and Tony whom she shared with her former spouse George Davis. JoAnn worked at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital for many years as a medical records transcriptionist. Prior to that, she had worked as the Calhoun County Auditor. JoAnn was later remarried to Denis Alspach. While they had been married, JoAnn enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren which continued on after they divorced. JoAnn had many hobbies which included: sewing, playing bingo, going to the casino, reading, crafting, and quilting. She also volunteered at the Stewart Memorial Community Hospital Auxiliary Gift Shop from time to time and enjoyed her mornings with the library coffee group. JoAnn loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. Being Grandma Jo, Grandma Bite, and GG Jo was her favorite. She was kind-hearted, very giving, loving, quick-witted, and never afraid to call it as she saw it. She always wanted to be remembered with a smile. Those left to cherish her memory include her twin sister Joyce Toms of Fort Dodge, IA; her children: Jaki Schumacher of West Des Moines, IA, and Tony Davis of AZ; grandchildren: Jason McKenney, (Emily Lancial), Jenifer Schumacher, Jonas (Laura) Schumacher, Brandt Schumacher, and Colton Turnas (Elle Handy); great-grandchildren: Camden, Sawyer, Evelyn, Emersyn, Dash, Delta, and Carson. JoAnn was preceded in death by her son Mike Davis; granddaughter Paige Gallo; parents; and brother-in-law Don Toms.
