Irene, age 86, went to be with the Lord Sept.16th 2011 and her husband Merlyn, age 85, joined her 3 days later. They were inseparable in life and so too with their passing. They demonstrated in their marriage of almost 65 years their priorities of God and family. Their funeral took place at Faith Lutheran Church in Sun City, California. The burial grave side service will take place at Union Cemetery in Pomeroy Iowa on October 6th at 10:00am. Reception following at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pomeroy. Survivors include son Steve (wife Janet) of Menifee, daughter Sandy (husband Fred) of Tucson Arizona, 4 grandchildren, Kristen (husband Rob), Steve (wife Whitney), Amanda, Samantha, and great granddaughter, Kylie. Irene was born in Rockwell Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents Rev William and Henrietta Mueller, sisters Ruth and Lois and brother Robert. Merlyn was born in Pomeroy Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Hannah Kleen and brother Leroy. Merlyn and Irene were members of Windsor Heights Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa for 34 years and then Faith Lutheran Church in Sun City Ca, for 23 years. Irene taught in the Iowa public school system for 27 years and also enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church in Des Moines. In Merlyn's early years he was active in baseball and basketball and later became the assistant Treasurer at Iowa Power and Light in Des Moines. In their retirement years in California they very much enjoyed the activities of their children and those of their grandchildren. They both truly enjoyed playing golf as well as card games with their many friends. They also made the trip to Tucson on 30 separate occasions to participate as volunteers at 13 all women's Golf Tournaments and 17 Fine Art and Craft Fairs in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson.
