Dorothy Weinzetl
(April 10, 1939 - September 17, 2023)

Dorothy M. Sinek-Weinzetl, age 93, of Clive, formerly of Pomeroy and Twin Lakes, passed away on Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Walnut Ridge in Clive, Iowa. Dorothy, daughter of Joe and Philomena (Mullen) Murphy, was born on April 10, 1930, in Varina, Iowa. She graduated from St. Columbkille Catholic High School in Varina in 1948. She went on to attend Commercial Extension Business School and then worked at Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Pocahontas, Iowa. On October 23, 1954, she was united in marriage to Al J. Sinek of Pocahontas, Iowa. Al and Dorothy lived in Pomeroy Iowa, where Al started teaching. They raised their five children there and were active supporters of the school and community. They moved to Renwick, Iowa where Al was principal, and then moved back to Pomeroy where he was Superintendent of Schools for 20 years. Al and Dorothy spent their winters in Caliente, AZ, and their summers in Twin Lakes, Iowa. Dorothy worked part-time at the Pomeroy Care Center from 1973 through 1989 as a CNA where she enjoyed making the residents laugh and feel comfortable. Dorothy loved spending time with her five children, their families, her 13 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Pomeroy and later a member of St. Thomas Catholic Parish in Manson, Iowa. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Women’s Circles, and card clubs, and enjoyed many other activities. Dorothy’s husband Al passed away in 1999. In 2003, Dorothy married Edward Weinzetl, a lifelong farmer from Fonda, Iowa. They lived at Twin Lakes, Iowa for many years before they moved to Walnut Ridge Independent Living in Clive, Iowa for the past four years, where they met many new friends and enjoyed playing cards, Wii Bowling, and dinner functions. Dorothy lived life to its fullest: she loved to bake, dance, and watch sports. She was also an avid card player; however, not always the most popular because she consistently beat her opponents. Her children and grandchildren will not only miss her laughter and humor, but also her scotcharoos, and cinnamon rolls. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, brother (John Murphy), sister (Margaret Farrell), and her husband Al Sinek. Survivors include her husband, Edward Weinzetl, sons: Tim Sinek (Kathy), Jim Sinek (Stephanie), daughters: Jane Garcia (Gabe), Nancy English (Paul), Susan Flaherty (Ken), grandchildren: Jeni Marquez (Santana), Sondra Finks (Tyson), Quincy Sinek, Joe Sinek (Emma), Jacob Garcia, Luke Garcia, Anna Garcia, Elizabeth Smith (Danny), Jim English, Megan English, Andrew Flaherty (Mackenzie), Ben Flaherty (Lexi), Ali Flaherty, great grandchildren: Murphy and Patrick Smith, Lincoln Finks and Maya Flaherty.
