Caroline Schlosser Schlachter
(November 29, 1862 – November 1, 1933)

Obituary
Caroline Schollser Schlachter was born in Ludwigshafen on the Rhine, Nov. 29, 1862. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Donald Hinton, near Rockwell City, about 4 a.m. Nov. 1, 1933, aged 70 years, 10 months and 2 days. She grew to womanhood in Germany. At the age of 22 she was married to Carl Joseph Schlachter in Luwigshafen. Four children were born to this union, Carl and Emil born in Germany, and Helen and Frederick in this country. In 1892, with her husband and two children she came to America and after locating temporarily in Streator, Toluca and Washburn, Ill., the family established their permanent residence in Rockwell City March 1900, where she has resided ever since. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 12, 1928, and her son, Emil was taken by accident on Nov. 19, 1924. Since Jan 31, 1915 she had been a faithful member of the Presbyterian church of this city. Her interest in the church was evidenced by her faithful attendance during these years and her continued interest even after it became impossible for her to attend regularly. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge. Mrs. Schlachter’s life had been characterized by Christian patience and streadfastness. She had a deep and abiding faith in the word of God. The promises given in that word were a great comfort to her during the days of her enforced idleness and she eagerly looked forward to the time she would be enabled to claim those promises for herself. Always having been an active woman and a hard worker, it was not easy to resign herself in inactivity which was necessary since her illness of a year and a half ago. Her Christian faith stood her in good stead, helping her to keep her mind on those things which are eternal, even to the extent of a real longing to depart and be with those loved ones who had gone before. She felt that her life had been lived but was always willing to do what she felt her Lord wanted her to do. She had been permitted to be with us slightly more than the Psalmist’s three score years and ten and such a life as she had lived will be a constant benediction on those who have known her. The services which she had rendered to family and friends will not soon be forgotten. There remain to be mourn her loss, her sons, Carl and Frederick, one daughter, Mrs. Donald Hinton, and two grandchildren, all of Rockwell City. In addition to these there are a host of friends who feel deeply her departure, but will cherish in memory the inspiration of her consistent Christian character.
