Frances Katherine Nutter
(January 4, 1924 - November 15, 2023)

Frances Katherine Nutter peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at Accura Healthcare of Lake City. Frances was born January 4, 1924, during a terrible blizzard on the family farm near Esbon, KS. The doctor who arrived on horseback was snowbound in their home for two days. Frances was the third of seven children born to John and Mary Ellen (Kelliher) Doyle. Frances attended grade school in Esbon, KS, and graduated from high school in nearby Red Cloud, NE. Following graduation, she moved to Denver, CO, and got a job at Remington Arms munitions plant. Many women during WWII went to work to help the war effort. They were given the title “Rosy the Riveter”. At a dance sponsored by Remington Arms, Frances met her future husband, Deane Nutter. Deane and Frances were married six months later on August 6, 1942, shortly before Deane left for the Army. After the war, they moved back to Deane’s home state of Iowa where they owned and operated DX gas stations and a tank wagon service. Frances was employed by the Lake City State Bank where she worked her way up to Assistant Vice President Loan Officer. Four children blessed this marriage of 48 years. Frances enjoyed quilting, cross stitching, sporting events, family reunions, and especially card playing. She was known to question each new boyfriend or girlfriend whether they knew how to play euchre. She was a member of the Stewart Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and St. Theresa’s Sodality. Most of all, Frances was a wonderful Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Great- Great-Grandma. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters Jan (Lonnie) Lee of Spirit Lake, Pat (Bill) Albright of Lake City, Deanne (Andy) Grantham of Lake City, and daughter-in-law Renee Fortner of Lanesboro. Twelve grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Deane; son Michael Nutter; infant grandson William Michael Albright; son-in-law Dennis Pierce; brothers John, Bernard, Eugene, and Robert Doyle; sisters Rose and Pat Doyle; parents-in-law Esther and Edmund Nutter.
