Rites Held Dec 30 For Herman Jesse
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Dec. 30, in Immanuel Lutheran church for Herman J. Jesse, 65, who died Sunday evening, Dec. ’27, at Lutheran hospital in Fort Dodge after being a patient there for nearly two weeks. The Rev. Charles F. Bell officiated. The church choir, under the direction of A. C. Krallman, sang “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “Asleep in Jesus.” Interment was in Union cemetery. Pallbearers were Neal Pohl, Carl Porth, Martin Gutz, Oliver Baker, Ernest Baker and Everett Ulrich. The Michael Funeral Home was in charge.
Herman Julius Jesse was born at Pomeroy on Jan. 18, 1899, the son of William J. Jesse and his wife, Augusta Sobkowiak. He was baptized in Immanuel Lutheran church on March 5, 1899, and confirmed there on April 5, 1914. Mr. Jesse spent his boyhood on his father’s farm. On Jan 18, 1928, he was united in marriage to Anna Mohr in St. John Lutheran church, Pomeroy. This marriage was blessed with six children, four of whom survive. Mr. Jesse was a life-long resident of the Pomeroy community and was very active in his church, being an elder at the time of his death. In recent weeks Mr. Jesse began to fail in health. On Wednesday, Dec 16, he entered Lutheran hospital. His condition steadily grew worse and death, due to cancer, came Sunday evening, Dec. 27. Mr. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, one brother William, and two sons. He is survived by his widow: two sons, Harold of Pocahontas and Leroy of Fonda; two daughters, Darlene (Mrs. Mayo Chance) of Hoyt Lakes, Minn., and Pauline (Mrs. Gary Roush) of Pocahontas; two sister, Mrs. Martha Meyer and Mrs. Walter Voss, both of Pomeroy; ten grandchildren and other relatives.
