Sherman Township Pioneer Woman Laid To Rest
Mrs. Pauline Hoeregott passed away on Tuesday morning of last week on the farm home north of Twin Lakes, which had been her home for over 63 years. She had been up and around the house until Saturday evening, although she had been quite frail for the past few months. On January 17 Mrs. Hoeregott celebrated her 90th birthday, and relatives held a party in her honor. She enjoyed these gatherings and could entertain the younger people with many stories of pioneer days. Her mind was clear up to the very last. Born in Germany in 1840, Pauline Barbara Becker came to America in September 1866, to meet her fiancé, Conrad Hoeregott, who had come earlier to prepare a home. Mr. Hoeregott chose for their home the farm in Sherman Township, which has now been the family home for over 63 years. He hauled all the material for their home from Boone, which was then the end of the Chicago & Northwestern railroad. Mr. Hoeregott met his bride-to-be at Boone and there they were married. From Boone to Fort Dodge they traveled in an overland stage to their home in Sherman Township with an ox team. Mr. and Mrs. Hoeregott lived on the farm together until his death in December 1909. Seven children were born to them, all of whom survive their parents. They are Mr. Walton of Princeton, Minn., Mrs. F. L. Omann of Knierim, Iowa, Carl of Alvin, Texas, Mrs. C. W. Kellogg of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Mrs. Carl Tjebben, Conrad and Ida at home. There are also twenty-two grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday morning at St. Mary’s Catholic church in Pomeroy and burial made at Pomeroy. – Manson Journal
