On the 25th of January 1905 Mrs. Hattie Brand passed away. Mrs. Brand was born Dec. 30, 1866 in one of the eastern counties of this state and moved into Calhoun County about 24 years ago and on Oct. 4th 1884 was married to Henry Brand of Cedar Township, Calhoun County, Iowa.
Mrs. Brand at her death was 38 years and 25 days old and left a husband and two sons to mourn her loss. Sister Brand was a good, kind and affectionate wife, a good mother and one of the best of neighbors, always cheerful in company and trying to make every one around her happy. Her disposition was loving and kind to those with whom she came to know. Sister Brand was a woman who liked principle and character to be the dominant factor of her associates. She did not belong to any church society, but said before death to those who nursed her, that she had made her peace with God and did not fear death as it had no terrors for her.
The deceased left a host of friends to mourn her demise as she always carried comfort and cheer with her wherever she went. Her husband can hardly realize how much he lost when she passed away. But says that no man lost more than he has lost because of her kind, loving disposition. So ever ready to do for her family and friends everything that was in her power to do.
