Death Date: June 11, 2012Place of Death: Ada M. Bigelow 88, formerly of Rockwell City, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 15, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor James Hoover Mossman officiating.
Burial will be at Rosehill Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City.
Ada is survived by her husband Elsworth; daughter Kathleen (Richard) Buresh of Mission, TX; and son Gary Bigelow of Apache Junction, AZ; four grandsons; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred James and Estella M. Chapman Smith; and sister Grace Klocko.
Ada Maurine Smith Bigelow was born April 11, 1924 on a farm northwest of Rockwell City. She attended schools in Jolley, and graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1942. She then attended Omaha Business School in Omaha. On June 6, 1943 she was united in marriage to Elsworth Lee Bigelow. The couple lived in Boston, Massachusetts while Elsworth was in the service, and Ada worked at the First National Bank. They also had lived in many communities including, Jolley, Blythe, California, Ostrander, Minnesota, Belvidere, Illinois, and Mesa, Arizona, before returning to Rockwell City. Ada had worked at various jobs over the years including the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Machine & Tool Plant in Belvidere, and the Mesa School System in Arizona. Ada was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, WELCA, Dorcas Circle, and the Jolley Garden Club. Ada enjoyed singing and gardening.
