M.J. Streit, well known resident of Pomeroy, died suddenly Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 1946, just as he arrived at St. Mary's Catholic church for the morning services. On his way to the church with Mrs. Streit, he complained of having difficulty in breathing and upon his arrival at the church he suffered a heart attack, dying within a few minutes.
Funeral services for Mr. Streit, who was 77 years of age last November 11, were at 9 o'clock at the home in east Pomeroy and at 9:30 in St. Mary's church, Rev. Father N.J. Boes in charge. Burial was in the Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were Bud Kruchten, Donald Lenz, Conrad Hoeregott, F.X. Huber, O.N. Baker and Lester O'Toole.
The Pomeroy business places closed during the funeral hour.
Michael J. Streit, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Streit, was born Nov. 11, 1868, in Keokuk county, Iowa, where he was reared and received his schooling. About 1900 he came to Pomeroy where, on February 15, 1905, he was united in marriage to Miss Clara Heebner of Rockwell City.
Mr. and Mrs. Streit began housekeeping on a farm five miles southeast of Pomeroy where they remained until 1923 when they moved into Pomeroy. For about 15 years now he has been employed by C.R. Benedict in the service station. Since the first of last November, Mr. Streit has been confined to his home much of the time with heart trouble.
Mr. and Mrs. Streit are the parents of six children; Leo, who died at the age of sixteen years; Bernard and Arnold Streit, Mrs. John Duden and Mrs. Bernard Guggisberg of Pomeroy, and Mrs. William Smith of Thomasboro, Ill. There are nine grandchildren. Besides his widow, children and grandchildren, he is survived by two brothers, John of Cedar Rapids and Pete of Keota, one sister, Mrs. John Ruplinger of Harper, and other relatives.
