James Thomas Nicholas
Lake City Graphic, December 28, 1899

James Thomas Nicholas was born near Penzance, Cornwall, England, June 9, 1859, and died at his home at Cripple Creek, Col, Sunday morning, Dec. 10, 1899. He lived with his parents in England until 1880 when he came to America. In 1887 he visited England, remaining at his old home for a year, when he returned to America. He traveled quite extensively through the west and south but made his home mostly in Colorado, except two years spent in South Africa, when on his return he again visited his aged parents. July 27, 1893, he was married to Carrie Edith Fobes.

To this union were born two children, Maud Lillian, and Howard Loyd. June 4, 1898, he was injured in an accident on an electric car while returning from his work in Cripple Creek, from which injuries he never recovered. Through all his sufferings he was ever patient and trusting. Shortly before he died he said, “God’s will be done, He knows best.” The wife and two children are left to mourn the loss of a loving husband and father. He leaves an aged father and mother, brothers and sisters, all in England, except one sister, of Bald Mountain Colorado.

Short services were held at their home in Cripple Creek, Monday afternoon, conducted by the Revs. Sisson and Steinmitz, after which the remains were brought to the old home near Lake City. Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at the Cottonwood church by Revs. Keith and Wilkins after which he was laid to rest in the Cottonwood cemetery
