In Response To: ELLIOTT line (Billie Leclerc)

I'm still seeking the origins of my Elliott great grandmother, Lucinda Elliott. She arrived in NY from Ireland May 14th, 1853 with teen siblings Charles & Margaret accompanied by an adult William Elliott, about 40-45 yrs. old.
2 years later, in 1855 NY City, William married a younger woman from Ireland Jane Burgess. He gave St. Lawrence Co. NY as his address on the marriage document but I cannot find any such NY address for him. It even took a trip to NYC to find that marriage documentation. I don't know if the 3 teenagers were still in NY with William or not, but between 1856 and 1866, he seems to have lived with his family in Iowa. So did Lucinda Elliott Betts, living in Butler Co. IA, my great grandmother.
In the Iowa Census of 1856 this Elliott family unit of 5 appears in Cedar Falls, Blackhawk Co. with the addition of a 1 yr. old baby and a young man, John Elliott, 22, a butcher. So I assume that this is a reunited family unit, John perhaps having come to America alone; moving in with his recently arrived father.
The IA census of 1860 lists William Elliott, now father of a 2nd child, as a farmer and Charles now 29 as a blacksmith/carpenter. Separately, Lucinda appears with her new husband C.C. Betts and an 8 month old son; they married in 1858. Margaret, 19, appears in the 1860 Bremer Iowa census married to a Robert Butterworth in 1859. So far everyone is accounted for.
William Elliott died in New Hartford, IA on Nov. 18, 1866 per the state records. He and his wife Jane Burgess Elliott are buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls IA. A few years ago I visited and photographed their stone to confirm this fact recorded by the Iowa Cemetery Records, page 135. I’m still trying to discover the Irish origins of this William Elliott.
Can any of Iowa’s many Elliott's connect to this family through either an Elliott or Burgess line? Arthur seems to be a favorite name among their descendants and Lucinda is not all that common. Thanks for checking Iowa’s Elliott's.
