1927:
Obituary from "The Iowa Recorder", Greene, Butler County Iowa, Wednesday, April 20, 1927

A. C. Willey passed away Monday Morning

Alva Clark Willey was born in Minneapolis, Minn, February 12, 1878, and died at his home near Packard at 6:45 o'clock Monday morning, April 18, 1927, at the age of 54 years, two months and six days.
His parents died when he was a small child, and he made his home with his grandparents, coming to Iowa when he was 21 years of age. He has lived in this vicinity ever since, the past eleven years being spent on his farm near Packard.
February 3, 1895, he was united in marriage with Miss Laura Crouse, and two sons were born to bless this union, Lawrence, who passed away in August, 1925, and Verne at home.
Al, as he was familiarly known to his many friends, was an honest upright and highly respected citizen; always genial and hospitable. He was a member of the I.O.O.F and Rebekah lodges at Greene. About a week ago he was taken ill with the flu, but as all the family had been afflicted with the same ailment, no alarm was felt for his recovery. However, a few days passed and his condition steadily grew worse, and the crises came at an early hour Monday, and three hours later he passed away.
His father-in-law, Mr. J. B. Crouse, has been very ill in the Willey home with bronchial trouble, and on account of his advanced age deep concern was felt for him but he is standing the ordeal very well and is slowly improving. (J.B. died a few weeks later. See his obituary).
Mrs Willey's family, her brother Charles and wife, and her sisters, Mrs. Chas. Harris and husband, Ionia (Ia), and Mrs. Roy Demo and husband, Rockford (IA), together with Nurse Caroline Schrage, kept a constant vigil with the afflicted ones, but Mr Willey's physical condition was so run down that he could not successfully combat the disease.
He leaves his grief-stricken wife, son Verne and wife, and two grandchildren, and a large concourse of relatives and friends to mourn his death.

Funeral services were conducted this afternoon at the Christian Church, with Rev. G. A. Hess of Charles City, officiating. The I.O.O.F. funeral rites will be observed. Interment in Rosehill cemetery.
