Obituary of Mrs. Alice Pringle
Alice Narcissus Richards was born in Dumont, Ill., December 23, 1852, and died at her home in Greene, Iowa, February 26, 1924, at the age of seventy-one years, two months and three days. In the year 1870 she came to Clarksville, Iowa, where she was married, Jan. 15, 1871 to Robert Pringle.
To this union five children were born, two having passed to the Great Beyond. George Edward died at the age of five years during the great diptheria epidemic and LeRoy Clayton in 1915. She leaves to mourn her loss one son, Milton B., of Lakota, Iowa; one granddaughter, Arlene Alice and two daughters, Allie Wilson, of Minneapolis and Miss Emma, of Greene; a sister, Mrs. Ida Gould, of Minneapolis; and an aged brother, P.A. Richards of McAllister, Oklahoma; besides many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the home, Thursday afteroon, by Rev. L.P. Parker, using as his text: "Come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
The following nephews acted as pall bearers: Clarence McCracken, Lou Hesalroad, Elmer Pringle, Ben Pringle, Allen Pringle and Walter Behnke.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Klink, Mrs. Wiltse Graves and Mrs. Plin Hurd, of Clarksville came to attend the funeral.
In the passing away of Mrs. Alice Pringle, we can truly say a good woman has gone to rest. She was quiet, unassuming, home loving and devoted to her children, a true friend and a kind neighbor. She bore her trials in life in silence.
We remember the little log house (whish were so common in those days) where she went to housekeeping, a young and happy bride, with hope and love beaming in her face. How she always tried to do her part to keep the home fires burning and protect her children from harm.
Later in life, she came to Greene with her two daughters, where they finished their education, one leaving the home nest for a home of her own, the other, Miss Emma, who was always with her to care for her in her declining years and make her as comfortable as she could until the end.
While we mourn her loss, we feel her life was not in vain. She went to sleep with her two loving daughters by her side to comfort her in her last hours here and a son and granddaughter, who she longs to join in glad tomorrow.
