James Pringle, 87, Dies Thursday
Had Lived in Butler County For Eighty Years
Funeral Services Held at Church of Christ Saturday -- Rev. F. A. Munneke in Charge
The pioneers of Butler County are becoming fewer year by year. James Pringle of Greene, who has been a resident of this county for about 85 years, died Thursday February 26, 1939 at the age of 87 years, 4 months and 1 day.
He was born Oct. 22, 1851 in Michigan and came with his parents to Clarksville, when a small child. October 23, 1874 he was united in marriage with Nancy Williams of Clarksville. Soon after they moved to their farm eight miles southwest of Greene where they lived 26 years and have since made their home in Greene. Mrs. Pringle preceded him in death Oct. 12, 1937.
Funeral Services were held at the Church of Christ, Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. F.A. Munneke, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Miss Helen Thompson sang "Saved By Grace" accompanied by Miss Genevieve Lucas. Casket bearers were W.A. Myers, Dick Van Horn, Jesse Thompson, Dick Vahlsing, Wm. Meyne and Henry Bochman. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
He is survived by one son, Elmer E. of Shell Rock; two daughters Mrs. Lizzie Hesalroad of Greene and Mrs. Clarence Mc Cracken of Allison; one brother George of Greene; 10 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren.
Mr. Pringle was an active member of the Church of Christ, and was faithful in its work to the last. He also took an active part in all the meetings of Old Settlers of Butler County held at the Hall's Grove Church.
For nearly four score years he has been a life brim full of work. No task too large, no task too small; no duty would be shirk. A self made man. And when at last his weary feet shall reach the other shore, his portions, may it be to meet those who have gone before.
