APLINGTON-Emma Vanderwerf, 92, of Aplington, died Sunday, Nov. 5, at home of natural causes; survivors include two daughters, Shirley Thompson of Cedar Falls and Elaine Hook of Aplington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, George "Butch" Oldenburger of Waterloo; she was preceded in death by her husband, Casjen; an infant granddaughter, and two brothers, Fred and Bruno Oldenburger; services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Presbyterian Church, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery; friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington; Mrs. Vanderwerf and her husband had farmed in the Aplington, Ackley and Parkersburg areas and were janitors at the Presbyterian Church; she was also a caretaker.
