Ethel Ellen Hootman of Parkersburg, Iowa was born the daughter of John and Lorinda Bell Davis Carter on October 1, 1898, near Luzerne, Iowa. She graduated from the Marengo High School in Marengo.
On January 16, 1926, Ethel was united in marriage to Clyde J. Hootman in Stirling, Illinois. They lived in Cedar Rapids, Marengo and Traer, Iowa before moving to Parkersburg in 1945.
She was an active member of the United Methodist Church and played the piano for Sunday School openings for many years. She also enjoyed sewing, reading and being with her family.
Ethel became a resident of Allison Care Center in Allison, Iowa on May 6, 1988. After being taken to Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa she died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, June 13, 1993, reaching the age of 94 years, 8 months and 12 days. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband Clyde, her parents, 4 brothers, Merle, Ray, Carl and John Carter and a sister, Bertha Myers.
Ethel is survived by her: 1 son, Harold Clyde Hootman of Laguana Niguel, California; 1 daughter, Dorothy, Mrs. Arnold Wagner of Parkersburg, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, Eddie Stout, Julie Flater, Laurie Nitcher, Lisa Lancaster, Matt Wagner, Paula Wagner, Sue Dolan and Jane Hootman; and 7 great grandchildren.
