From Clarksville Star, 19 Feb 1891

“Thomas Priestley died at his home in this place on February 15, 1891. The funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church on the 17th inst., Reve. Shiffer delivering the discourse.
The deceased was born in Yorkshire, England April 27, 1834, and came to America in 1856, settling near Scranton, Pennsylvania. He remained there 18 months and then moved to Dixon, Illinois where he was united in marriage to Clarissa Leake on March 24, 1862. In the fall of 1869 with his family he moved to their farm near Clarksville, Iowa. On account of failing health, he and his wife moved to town about two years ago. His wife and one daughter survive him.
Mr. Priestley was a warm-hearted friend, a kind husband and father, and in business industrious and careful to a thrifty degree. As a neighbor he was among the best. Peace to his ashes.”

(Elsewhere in the same paper)
“James Normanton of LeMars Iowa was called here by the death of his cousin Thomas Priestley. Time deals gently with Jim.”
“Mr. and Mrs. William Chiverton and Mr. John Leake of Dixon Illinois have been here this week coming to attend Thomas Priestley’s funeral. Mrs. Priestley is a sister to Mrs. Chiverton and Mr. Leake.”
